On a business trip to Burgundy, 34-year-old Melbourne jeweller Travis Trewarne developed a passion for the viticulture. Somehow that inspired Cote de Nuits, the ring pictured, and the winner of the latest Diamond Guild of Australia awards.
The precision plantings of the vineyard inspired the neat rows of 144 white diamonds (totalling 1.36 carats), set in white gold, while the rare .56-carat pink diamond from Western Australia's Argyle mines is a nod to the esteemed pinot noir grape. Its $35,000-plus price tag would buy about 70 bottles of Trewarne's preferred tipple, an Armand Rousseau Grand Cru from Gevrey-Chambertin, Cote de Nuits.
