Winner of the Pink Diamond Category
Harper's Bazaar, Diamond Guild of Australia
National Jewellery Design Awards
November 2005
Melbourne jeweller Travis Trewarne has won this year's prestigious Diamond Guild of Australia's jewellery awards run in conjunction with Harper's Bazaar magazine.
Travis's Cote-de-Nuits cocktail ring, featuring a beautiful and extremely rare .56 carat pink diamond on a tapering carpet of linear white diamonds was judged the most exquisite from a field of 55 entries from across Australia.
One of the judges, Alison Veness-McGourty, editor of Harper's Bazaar said: "As soon as we saw it we felt we had found a winner. It had such a wow factor".
The ring, which is valued at $35,000, is "not for the faint hearted woman who likes to stay in the background" according to Travis.
"This ring makes a strong statement for an empowered personality", he said of his first ever entry into a design competition.
The Cote-de-Nuits presented a major design challenge for Travis, who usually focuses on the likely wearer of the design.
"In this case the ring design was not reflecting a particular personality, but more the personality of a particular place, the Bourgogne wine region in central France".
"The ring I think expresses the passion, beauty and rarity of this unique place", he said.
Travis, a 35-year-old fourth generation jeweller from Trewarne Fine Jewellery, Melbourne, has been designing jewellery pieces for his clients for years and abides by a principle guideline; "Truly beautiful designs originate from the simplest of ideas".
Travis carries this design philosophy through his everyday work and his custom designed treasures have all become precious heirlooms in the hands of their owners.
For engagement rings he has become especially sought after in the Melbourne scene as he works closely with his clients to develop a design that truly reflects the personality of its owner.
"I especially love working with diamonds as no other gemstone generates such emotional reactions and feelings", Travis said.
The ring will be displayed at the four Trewarne jewellery stores in Melbourne, and is for sale.
